At the
Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Theatre, 5586 W Highway 76.
The legendary
Sons of the Pioneers,
the longest continuously performing group of all time, are back by popular demand for their
8th season (2011) at
The Shepherd of the Hills Pavilion Theatre.
This American cowboy singing group was
founded in 1933 by the one-and-only
Roy Rogers. The group was designated "National Treasures" by the
Smithsonian Institute in 1977.
During their 78-year existence, the Sons have recorded
57 albums and
appeared in 98 films.
Their Branson show will surprise anyone seeing them for the first time because not only do they perform all of their heart-tugging western classics, but when they set down the
guitars and fiddles and
pick up the
sax,
trombone and
trumpet, they play terrific
western swing,
swing,
ragtime,
jazz,
dixieland,
gospel and
big band music.
Enjoy the Sons' beautiful western harmonies, signature hits like "
Cool Water" (their song that resides in the Grammy Hall of Fame) and "
Tumbling Tumbleweeds," and a
hearty cowboy feast served straight off an authentic Chuckwagon.
Dinner will be served during the performance. The menu includes:
beef brisket, a smoked chicken breast quarter, savory slow smoked sausage, barbeque beans, Dutch oven sparkl'n tators, a hot roast'n ear of corn dipped in butter, a hot sourdough roll with honey and Dutch oven campfire cobbler. Delicious!
In
March 2009, The
Sons of the Pioneers were honored at the State Capitol in
Jefferson City, Missouri as
Outstanding Missourians. The award was accepted by current members
Randy Rudd (lead singer & guitarist),
Luther Nallie,
Gary LeMaster,
Mark Abbot,
Ken Lattimore and Ricky Boen. The Sons of the Pioneers also played at
The Grand Ole Opry on April 17, 2009.
The
dinner bell rings at 4:15 pm. The Pavilion Theatre is
near the main entrance to The Shepherd of the Hills. The theatre is open-air, covered and protected from the weather.
One of our writers swears this is one Branson show
not to be missed.
Join the Sons Monday through Saturday; May 2 through October 28, 2011.
Historical Notes for the Sons of the Pioneers: In 2008, there were new Holiday Matinee Shows on the weekends in November and December at 1 pm.
